Assume I have the application of wanting to measure the length of tube moving past a certain point in the vision frame, would this be possible (with resolution ~0.1mm)? Like measuring the length of tube being fed into a machine.

This thread has some information on measuring distance:
0.1mm is probably not within the realm though. You might be able to get around 1mm resolution if the object is held sufficiently close to the lens.
