Pixymon Windows 10 Installation Issues

Good morning,

I am running into problems trying to install Pixymon onto Windows 10.

Since I did not see a specific installation file for Windows 10 I grabbed the latest version for Windows 8 and attempted to install that.

After double clicking on the file to install it the usual installation wizard does not run, no installation prompt pops up, nothing. I also attempted to run the installation as administrator and also right clicked on the file and chose to enable the Windows 8 compatibility mode to try and install it that way but still nothing.

Is it more likely that this is an issue between my computer and Windows 10 or could this be an issue with the Pixymon installation file itself?

Has anyone else run into a similar issue and been able to resolve it?

I appreciate any help you can provide!

Hello Andre,
I’m under the assumption that it would just work. No one here has installed Windows 10 yet. Do you have another Windows machine you can try to install Pixymon? (just as an experiment?) We’ll get Windows 10 installed on someone’s machine (if we haven’t already) and see if anything has changed.

Edward

Hi Edward,

Thank you for your response!

I had an old laptop with Windows 7 lying around so I installed PixyMon on that with no issues using the same executable.

Running further testing on my Windows 10 laptop I noticed the following:

  1. Downloading the executable and double clicking the file caused the File Explorer window to freeze. Checking the background processes using Task Manager showed no process for an in process installation.
  2. Right clicking on the file and using Run as Administrator yielded the same result as above.
  3. Right clicking on the file and selecting Properties and trying the Windows 8 compatibility mode actually caused 3 background processes under the PixyMon name to pop up but still caused the File Explorer window to freeze and no installation wizard/setup screen to appear.

If you need any more information let me know!

Thanks,
-Andre

Hi Andre, thanks for the info!

Hi Edward,

I actually managed to resolve this issue. I got a random email from someone reading the forums saying they ran into the same issue installing PixyMon on Windows 10 and it turned out it was actually Avast Antivirus that was blocking the application from installing.

Sure enough after momentarily disabling Avast the installation ran smoothly!

I just wanted to share the knowledge in case anyone else runs into the same problem.

Thanks again for your help,
-Andre

Hi Andre,
We also tested on a Windows 10 machine and it seemed fine, but we’re new to Win10.

Thanks for the update!

Edward
