question regarding the 640x400 resolution

Hello all,

The native sensor resolution is 1280 x800. is the 640 x400 obtained by using only half the image sensor area or is 640 x 400 obtained by taking every other pixel out of the 1280 x 800. also when we adjust the camera’s focus are we changing focal length or FOV?

Thanks in advance for the answers,

Srikanth Kapali

The 640x400 resolution is the same FOV, just a different scaling of the image.

Adjusting the focus is just adjusting the focal plane — it doesn’t change the focal length or the FOV.

thanks!

Hi Rich. I thought that the decrease of resolution was due to the fps. The sensor (1280x800) has a rate of 25 fps and by halving the resolution we can reach these “really good for movement” 50 fps. Am I wrong?

Roberto

Hello Robert,
The Omnivision chip in Pixy has a 50 fps mode that is lower resolution (640x400) and that’s the mode that Pixy uses in the default color connected components program.

Hope this helps!
