Three questions about Pixy5 hardware compatibility

Hi there, my son and I are going to build a robot using the Pixy5 and have a few questions:

  1. What is the best Arduino board to buy for the Pixy5?
  2. Will an Arduino/Pixy5 combination work with servos on a Parallax Boe-Bot chassis?
  3. Has anyone connected Pixy5 to an xBee wireless module? Any particular challenges in that configuration?

Thanks,
Roger

Hi Roger,

  1. I don’t think there is any best one for Pixy, but if you’re just starting out I’d suggest getting the Arduino Uno since it is their standard board
  2. I can’t really tell you if it works since I don’t have a Boe-Bot to try it on. Hopefully someone else on these forums (or Boe-Bot forums) can give you a better answer here. Pixy supports quite a few communication protocols (SPI, I2C, UART, etc) so I’d like to think you’d be able to make the setup work.
  3. I’ve seen mentions of the Xbees on these forums, but no feedback. Xbees work well with Arduino, and so does Pixy. So you should be able to communicate between the two via an Arduino.

If anyone else has had good/bad experiences with Boe-Bot or Xbee, we’d love to hear about it!

Good luck on your project, Roger!

Scott
