usb device not recognized

I’ve tried installing pixymon 1.47 on two different machines, but when I plug in the pixy to the USB port I get the windows message “usb device not recognized”. It shows as “Unknown device” in the device manager the ‘driver details’ shows “No driver files are required or have been loaded for this device.” Attempting a manual update of the driver using the pixymon folder doesn’t trigger an update either.

Both machines are windows 7, one 64 bit, one 32 bit. In both cases the pixy initializes (lights come on and the pan/tilt moves) when plugged in, so I think the cable is fine.

Any suggestions for next steps?

Hi Tim, it appears that either the USB cable you are using is bad or the driver isn’t installing for some reason. The fact that it’s happening on both machines tends to favor the bad cable. Do you have another cable you can try?

I’m getting this problem as well. I definitely found some power only cables, but I am now using cables that worked in other data applications and should work. The Pixy does go through the rainbow if I hold the button down. I tried to update the firmware, but even when I am holding the button down when I put the cable into the board, the led just goes white and brings up the USB Device not Recognized message.

OK. I went to best buy and dropped 12.99 on a new USB Mini cable and it works. These other ones worked on other cameras an things, so I am baffled, but at least am working. Thanks

Hello Eric,
Sorry for the problems. Pixy uses USB 2.0. Some cables tend to only support the slower connections. Glad you got it working though
